Dating can be very stressful, especially if you are constantly out and about on the social dating scene without having a regular partner. If you have had a succession of unsuccessful short-term dates you could be feeling a little jaded from the dating experience. In either situation you are probably in need of taking a break from the dating scene.
For most people the point of dating is to get out and meet people socially, and even more usual, the purpose of getting out meeting people socially is to find a partner. If you’re tired of the dating scene you’re not going to either enjoy yourself, or presenting yourself at your best to a potential partner. Your fatigue is going to show in the form of indifference to what’s happening around you, and so be counterproductive.
The way to combat this is to stop dating for a while. That doesn’t mean that you stop going out, just that you stop the actual dating. There’s nothing that says you can’t go out socially and not be on the lookout for someone to date. There are plenty of happily single people out there who aren’t dating at all who are testament to this. Go out with friends. Go dancing. Have supper at a nice restaurant. Take a trip to the movies. Without the pressure of the “date” situation, you’ll find that you start enjoying getting ready to go out again, and will soon be eyeing up the local talent with a view to finding a date.
One way to avoid dating fatigue is to restrict yourself to 1 date a week. You can go out more than that if you choose to, but not on dates. Keep a group of friends with whom you can do stuff – perhaps go to a gym, go to church, go out for coffee or ice cream – and then interchange these so that even this doesn’t get to be a boring routine. Watch a movie in your socks and pajamas, call in some home delivery pizza, do your nails, take a long bubble bath and just replenish your batteries without the need to impress someone else. Keep these nights sacred so that you don’t end up by having girlfriends around because it sounds so nice, like a slumber party – the idea is that you chill out and relax, and no matter how good your friends are, having people around almost always entails extra cleaning not to mention dishwashing so whilst a slumber party type atmosphere may sounds a great idea once in a while, make sure it doesn’t get to be every week or pretty soon you’re going to feel that dating will require less effort!
