The Time Traveler's Wife was the first book written by Audrey Niffenegger and is a national bestselling book. This book tells the love story between Harry Detamble and Claire Abshire and their unconventional life. Why do I say unconventional? It is because Harry DeTamble is not an ordinary man. He is a time traveler. He travels through different parts of his life and also through Claire's life as she grows up. As he travels, he meets Claire at different times in her life, getting to know her and also about their great love. When the time comes they marry, but with him slipping, sometimes without notice, through time, it is hard for them to maintain a healthy marriage. It is a struggle but they somehow manage to stay in love and in their marriage.
It was a pretty good book but I found that it was hard at times to get into. I am not sure why, but maybe it had something to do with Harry time traveling. At the best of times, time travel tends to give me headaches. As you are reading, you are in that time with Harry then the story tends to switch over to another date and the story starts over. Just when you are understanding what is going on, Harry disappears and you are in another time. I enjoyed reading the book and it did get better as I kept reading. At times, I was able to give up on reading it, but I was determined to keep going and find out what happened to both Harry and Claire. Parts of the story reminded me of the movie The Lake House, where at the beginning of the movie, a man is killed. We do not find out what happened until towards the end of the movie. This happened in this movie but you don't connect the dots until towards the end of the book when it is revealed what happened to Harry and to Claire. I am happy to note that this book did have a happy ending, but I will not reveal what kind of happy ending. I would recommend this book to who would like to read this book.
