Between the present and the past this writer tell us the story of Mel, that during a joke with her daughter Poppy, gets his life turned into a veritable hell.
Mel has not had an easy childhood, besides she being adopted, she wasn’t the daughter that her parents wanted to, and she goes to India and finally to Australia where she has found the Love. That Love lasted two years only and she returned to England with a little daughter to take care.
Even though mother and completely suspense, Mel could stabilize their lives working as a real estate agent, and giving her daughter Poppy a home and a decent life. It is also through the Agency that she finds the love from a man, Si. Si wanted to sell his apartment, due to a failed relationship with his ex-girlfriend Rosa.
Si promised to Mel all that she always wanted to, a good husband, a family stability. Why can''t we trust the person we love?
With this promise, she becomes pregnant, married and subsequently leaving not only her work but also her home, to go to a warehouse in Brockwell, that with very hard work and investment became the home of their dreams. But when they finally had changed, the reality was different, because everything was still to build, and they going to live temporarily in a pre-manufactured house. As a result of the construction delay, the lack of money to run it, Mel survived as she can with an advanced stage of pregnancy and child''s concern in adapting to your new life.
After the birth of son Jo, Si many times goes to work out and Mel attempted to face the fear of life with two children, never leaving believe in the husband. Si wasn''t with his family many times, and Mel got a great friend who had arrived to neighbourhood. Trish was pregnant single mother and companion of Mel.
Everything seemed to run normally, within what Mel had considered its life, but a simple touch in the bell changed everything.
Si was accused by the police of disappearance of his ex-girlfriend Rosa, everything pointed to this … and it was with these certainties of police that Mel faced Si to return home and face the accusations that were made.
This is the part that the writer associates the past to the present, this where Mel kidding with daughter lose her trail an just only listening a car go out of their property, Si car that was at home. After many hours of searching for some clue where was Poppy, with the council of Trish, Mel has call the police.
In my opinion it is in this part of the narrative that is so surprising and becomes more intense as advancing, showing a great mystery and suspense.
After a tremendous effort on the part of the police to find Poppy, nothing was discovered to despair of Mel, despair this that leads to an exhaustive search for their home, but to his surprise in her attic was Si brutally murdered. Who killed him? Who led Poppy?
Due to the state in which Mel was before this event, the police advised her to stay in the house of her friend, because inevitably her own house became the location of a crime.
With the support of her friend and a medical team, Mel stayed in her home together with Jo his son. In the middle of the night Mel couldn''t sleep, because she forgot to taken the drugs to sleep, such was her panic.
From here we come to imminent unexpected outcome of this exciting and compelling narrative.
Mel begins assembling the pieces of the puzzle and not only discovers that Trish is Rosa, the ex-girlfriend of her husband, as she was his killer. When Rosa appears with Jo on lap, Mel was confront Rosa with the reality of the facts and acts committed and she limited to flee being crossed through in her home. As the love of a mother is stronger, beyond all barriers, these barriers were overcome with the meeting rose with their children. Mel acted very carefully with afraid of the evil of the acts of Rosa, but the law of nature helped Mel to return her children because Rosa begins in labour and the pain was bigger that the desire for revenge.It''s amazing how by reading this book the characters earn life and it looks like we are seeing a movie being inevitable anxiety come fast to the end.
