Pia O'Brian gets the biggest shock of her life when she finds out her deceased friend has left her three of her embryos. She was expecting to get a cat. For the whole book Pia is pondering why her friend left them to her, but everyone else tells her they know exactly why she was picked. Motherhood is not something Pia takes lightly, this is a big decision for her to think about.
In the meantime Pia meets a guy named Raoul Moreno who recently moved to Fool's Gold. He is setting up a summer camp where the high school kids can hang out. Before he even opens the doors to the camp, it ends up becoming the temporary school when the school is burnt down.
Pia comes to know Raoul and she confides in him about what her friend has done. In the beginning he runs the other way, but gradually overtime they become best friends and he says he will become pregnancy buddy if she decides to go ahead and get pregnant. Pia does go ahead and has the procedure which could mean instead of one baby, she has three. And so the fun will begin.
The characters in this book all have so much depth. Overtime Pia grows to understand herself more as a person. It's such a powerful story to even write about, your best friend asking you to have her babies even though she is no longer alive to see them herself. The book focuses on the journey of a woman, who rediscovers her life is no longer going to be plain sailing. It's a lovely story with amazing characters who do anything for each other.
