Kiss the Dead is the twenty-first book in author Laurell K.
Hamilton’s vampire hunter Anita Blake Series.
A fan of Laurell K. Hamilton’s Anita Blake Series since her first book I
read Guilty Pleasures more than a decade ago. I was immediately entranced by
the books vampire hunting heroine Anita Blake. She was a necromancer, vampire
hunter, and sometimes worked with St. Louis preternatural police unit.
In a world where vampire, werewolves, and zombies exist
Anita Blake struggled to live her live by working as an Animator. A zombie
raiser.
Since that first book there have been many changes in the
books. One of these changes is that as the series continued the books have
become more erotic and more sex scenes filled the pages of the books. This has
never bothered me as the books always had a good story and action scenes also
filled the pages.
When I read the Kiss the Dead’s blurb I anxiously awaited to
release of the book. The first chapters of the book delivered with a new
vampire master in town, a police interrogation, vampire slaughter, and a
hostage situation but after this the story seemed to lag and endless sexual encounters
took too many pages and I kept waiting for the Anita and the police to search
for the vampire master and his fledglings but interest in this seemed to disappear
until the last chapters of the book where the action once again popped up as a
bomb situation came up right before the end of the book.
Although I enjoyed reading the book as I like to follow all
the characters in the series. I wish the action could have continued throughout
the book with more emphasize on the rogue vampire master and his agenda and a
little less personal issues and maybe one or two less sex scenes but overall
the book was a good read and I can just guess that this book was more as a beginning for
more exciting future story arcs in upcoming books as a new character was
introduced and more was explained about Anita’s boyfriends which are many as
she is polyamorous.
