When a confirmed bachelor meets a reluctant debuttante, they rewrite the laws of attraction.
Andrew Terwillger feels
like the last of a dying breed - a single, rich, titled
gentleman. Two of his closest friends have recently
married and to his astonishment, they seem happy. The three of them used to gamble and drink the night away. Now that his friends are married, all they want to do is spend time with their wives. Andrew doesn’t understand them. He intends to hold onto his freedom for as long as possible. After defending his fortune from an embezzler and quite a few determined matchmakers, Andrew is ready to enjoy life as a rake. Then he meets Olivia.
Olivia Banning had her life all planned. She would marry a nice quiet, mild mannered gentleman from the country, bear his children and live happily ever after. Then her aunt decided that the two of them should go to London so she could make her debut. Then they went to this party at an Earl’s house. Then she got lost and wandered into the most opulent room she had ever seen so of course she had to look around. That was when the host found her.
Well it was perfectly obvious what she was doing in his bedroom. She was curious, so was he; why shouldn't they get to know each other better? Things were going well - then, her aunt, his aunt and the biggest gossip in london walked in.
He tried to tell them there was something in her eye; but for some reason they didn't believe him. They insisted that the young lady had been compromised. Andrew and Olivia have made their bed; now they have to lie in it.
