A Little Mischief

Book Review by: Serenity Baxter

Original Author: Grey, Amelia
An avid reader helps an Earl investigate the mysterious disappearance of an unsavory gentleman.
Isabella Winslowe was
painfully shy. She couldn’t dance, she couldn’t flirt and she had no self confidence; but she was very well read. After she invited several young ladies of her acquaintance to read and discuss various books; her social anxiety diminished. Oddly enough, most of the ladies in Isabella’s reading club had slight physical defects (poor eyesight, missing front teeth, etc.). Certain confirmed bachelors begin calling Miss Winslowe’s reading group ‘the Wallflower Society’. The ladies didn’t really mind; and that really annoyed the bachelors.
Daniel Colebrook, Earl of Colebrook, doesn’t want his sister Gretchen hanging around with a bunch of spinsters. Unfortunately, Gretchen is almost as stubborn as her brother. She arranges to meet a disreputable young rogue at the Winslowe’s. When Isabella finds Gretchen in her garden standing over a man who appears to be dead, both of them think Miss Colebrook has killed him. Isabella is more than willing to let the Earl handle the situation however he sees fit. But when she tries to show Daniel the corpse, the ‘dead man’ is gone. Daniel thinks Isabella is unstable and warns her to stay away from his sister. Gretchen agrees not to attend the reading group; but, the Earl can’t seem to stay away from the lovely Miss Winslowe.
