Not only to the Christmas season

Book Review by: roni_you

Original Author: Heinrich Boll
This abstract was translated from Nicht nur zur Weihnachtszeit
This anthology contains sixteen before sow-Irish narrations of the
probably undisputed „master of the accurate satires
absent-minded in
different expenditures “, Heinrich Boell. Those hinreissend skurrile
history with the name „only to the Christmas season “does not form here
the beginning, whereby already alone at the title of Boell neckische
and provoking vein can be determined. Without a doubt you are not only
appropriate the quotation „for the summer time “of the well-known
Christmas carol „for O fir tree “to reason, whose seasonal regulation
modified Boell. Contentwise does it go here - like it could have been
different? - around a Christmas tree, which must begin to work the
whole year over. On most vergnügliche way one represents, like a
family, always to the well civil conventions clasping itself, which
celebrates whole year over Christmas. Despite Böll speaking ILS one can
not pinch oneself or other Schmunzeln directly, if the prätentiöse
society is attacked. Because, instead of deploring itself, on the basis
of a pessimistic world view, over the culture purge, the author packs
up his critical intentions in humor and thus almost forces the reader
to reflection. Not less deeply the narrations are „fate of a handleless
cup “, „incalculable guests “, or about „doctor Murkes collected
silence “, whereby in latter beside the society generally also
criticism at the hochtrabenden products of the culture industry one
practices. As applies to all works of Boell: either one hates it - or
one thoroughly loves it!
