MAD SPY Vs. SPY Super Special

Book Review by: Sameer_Kak

Original Author: Antonio Prohias
Antonio Prohias, the creator of Spy Vs. Spy, was forced to flee Cuba because Fidel Castro took umbrage at his anti-communist
cartoons. Who could be better placed to portray the lunacy, nay insanity, of the cold war? Rivalry for the sake of rivalry, a rivalry that knew no bounds, a rivalry that stopped at nothing. For both the black and the white agents are dedicated to one and only one cause – that of outwitting each other!
The genesis of the friendly rivalry between the man in white and the man in black, better known as Spy Vs. Spy, took place in the pages of the Joke and Dagger department. But it would not be out of place either in the diplomatic circuit, at the negociating table or in the corridors of power.
Antonio Prohias’ contention is that truth is never wholly white nor wholly black, but comes in different nuances, in shades of grey. In the shape of a gorgeous woman spy who is not afraid of playing black against white, always to her own advantage. The supreme irony is that we are never know why they are opposed to each other, or whose side we should be on, all that we know is that this is the way it is.
We are told that their work is top secret, that it involves secret projects / missions and secret laboratories (where all manner of bizarre gadgets and gimmicks are fashioned), and that there is a border line that must neve be crossed. What we do know is that no one is spared, no mistake is ever forgotten or forgiven. And no matter what, they will always come back for yet another round. What we gather is that the spy in black and the spy in white have much more in common than they would ever imgine.
Their greatest encounters come to life in this special issue devoted wholly to their capers. This special issue includes lost pages not seen before.
