This is yet another fantastic book about our
teenage witch Sabrina and her silly old pet cat Salem. This books speaks of Sabrina's accidental journey to ancient ages of Egypt during the reign of the cat goddess, Bass, along with her cat Salem and her non-magical friend, Valerie.
It's the start of summer vacation and Sabrina is already bored to death. Her aunts, Hilda and Zelda, are busy as usual. Sabrina goes into her backyard to turn over her extremely lazy cat who is taking a sun bath. Then
poof! The entire backyard transforms into a Middle Eastern bazaar. There were men dressed in long white robes and women draped in veils and there were stalls brimming with pomegranates, figs and dates. From between all that appeared an elephant, seated on the back of which were was non other than her third aunt, Vesta. She gave Sabrina an
Ushabti and told her that ancient Egyptians were simply mad about these. Each Ushabti was made to do a specific task for their master.
However Sabrina isn't aware of the job of her own ushabti. Then her friend Valerie visits Sabrina. Sabrina
tries to stop Salem from blabbering in front of Valerie and wishes to go to ancient Egypt with Salem and Valerie. Suddenly the Ushabti speaks and grants her wish. The next thing they know is that they are all spinning and then land in the sand. Sabrina, Salem and Valerie get up to see large pyramids all around and know where they are. The Ushabti then takes them to the palace of the cat goddess, Bast. Bast falls in love with Salem and decides to marry him. However the Ushabti, Myron, tells Sabrina that this is bad news. Bast had married more than a thousand cats and divorced them, turning them to stone as a result! Now it's all upto Sabrina to save Salem from a lifetime as stone.
Bast on the other hand feeds Salem the first of the three pieces of Ankh bread: on eating all three Salem would be married to Bast. She also decides to make Salem see her
reflection in the
Mirror of Isis on the night of the Scarab moon: that would make Salem fall in love with Bast so madly that he would forget all other things. On the other hand the court magician has trapped Sabrina's magical self. Now that Sabrina tries to do
magic to get the three of them out of there, she finds herself unable to do so.
On Basts command to keep the two here to accompany Salem, the court magician decides to bring here those whom Sabrina and Valerie loved. Hence Harvey and the math guy pop in during the marriage feast. Sabrina tries to trip the catgirl who brings the third and final piece of Ankh bread, but fails. As a result Bast punishes the troop and sends them to the Pharoahs tomb to die. However they find the Pharoah as an extremely handsome hunk who himself is stuck there because he is unable to solve the riddle which would get him out of there. Suddenly Sabrina's three aunts pop in the tomb in her search.
Together they solve the riddle and get out of there. They decide to rescue Salem and enter the palace as a dancing troop. During their performance Bast shows her reflection in the Mirror of Isis to Salem. However Sabrina takes off the cover from the Mirror of Isis in the magicians hand and looks into it with the reflection of the Scarab moon in it. That's it! The powers are reversed and Sabrina gets her magic back. Then she makes Salem look into the mirror and then all is well again. The spell on Salem is broken. Bast is really angry but then the Ushabti, Myron, declares his love for her and tells her that whatever she has been doing is wrong. Well everything ends perfectly! They return back to their own time and Sabrina resolutes to spend the rest of her vacations at home!
