The death of a young teenage boy on his way home from a joyous celebration;
brings heartache and grief to those he loved. In the book entitled Johnny Angel, author Danielle Steele, captured the inner essence of this young man named Johnny. A novel that is sincere, captivating and breathtaking, it will leave you wanting more. As she pulls the inner most feelings of the characters, each chapter draws the reader deeper inside the book. It will make you laugh and cry; you will fill as though you are a part of Johnny’s family and living thru the heartache of the loss.
The book begins with Johnny, a high school student and Valedictorian of his senior class. The love of his life was Becky Adams. They had been inseparable all through high school. In the fall, plans were that Johnny would attend the state college on scholarship. After the
accident
5 years ago, Alice, his
mother
retired from nursing. She wanted to care for her children. When the accident occurred, Alice blamed her husband Jim; but he blamed himself just as much. Since the accident Bobby hadn’t spoken a word and their father had began to drink more.
It was the night of the prom; Johnny and Becky had plans to attend. Time passed that fateful night; the young couple and their friends left the exciting event. Plans were to go to the diner before heading home. While Johnny was driving a carload of guys passed them. The vehicle was erratically out of control; Johnny sensed something bad was going to happen. The teenagers watched as the car turned down the wrong way. The young people hoped that they wouldn’t witness an accident after seeing the car. So Johnny turned down the side street, the music was playing in the car. The friends were all laughing and talking; they were enjoying life. Suddenly not long after Johnny drove onto the side street, glaring lights hit his eyes. Boom! There was a very strong crash and the occupants of the cars weren’t moving. After awhile the emergency vehicles arrived; Becky and her friends were shaken up. Johnny however was pronounced dead at the scene. When his family received the news of his death, they were devastated. Becky blamed herself for the accident and went into a shell.
A few months passed since his death, Johnny’s mother became very ill. She was rushed to the hospital where it was determined she had a bleeding ulcer. While there, Johnny appeared to Alice. At first she thought she had been dreaming or it was the drugs. After his death, her pain was unbearable; she couldn’t face going back home without him. After he appeared to her; she was able to talk to him. This made her feel like Johnny was still alive. After awhile Alice began to get better and was able to return home. However she was afraid of loosing him all over again. When Alice was released from the hospital, she returned home to her family. A day after going home, Johnny appeared to her again; but this time his presence was also felt by Bobby.
Months passed, things weren’t improving at home. Jim was still drinking, just as much as before. Johnny persuaded his Mother to get him to stop, but it wasn’t until he had another accident. This time Charlotte was in the car; Alice had already lost one child, she was determined not to loose another one. She gave her husband an ultimatum; either stop drinking or she takes the kids and leaves. Tension in the house became worse; this broke Johnny’s heart to see his family in so much pain. Johnny’s mission was not complete; he helped his family deal with the pain of losing him. While he was around things gotbetter. His father eventually stopped drinking. He became more involved with Charlotte’s sports. Their relationship grew stronger; after 5 years in silence Bobby finally spoke for the first time. After hearing Bobby speak their father rejoiced to hear his son’s voice. Alice had gotten stronger and with Johnny around, this made her happy.
Becky’s life had began to improve; she became involved with a young college guy. He eventually helped her get a scholarship to college. Later on the young couple married. Things were getting better all around for everyone that Johnny loved. Time came closer and soon his mission would end. His mother didn’t want him to leave she began to get ill again. Johnny completed his mission by purchasing something for his Mother. As he handed her the bag, he walked away then slowly disappeared. When Alice looked inside the brown bag, she was puzzled at what was inside. She took the test and the results were positive. Yes, she was having another baby. Johnny’s mission was definitely complete.
His family had over came the grief and pain. Their lives prospered and grew more abundant. He had taught his loved ones how to heal; they had hope for a promising tomorrow. A story of loving and letting go of someone so precious. Blessings and second chances were given to those he loved. A celebration of live, hope and forgiveness. After reading this book it will bring joy to your heart and tears to your eyes. It will draw your loved ones more closer to you.
