1984 is a futuristic story in the 1940''s about life in England after Marshall Law has taken over, and Big Brother rules
the world. Technology is used to spy on the population, and televisions are used to monitor people for "thought crimes." Big Brother is lauded as the supreme ruler, and the
citizens are mindless drones that work and play all in his name.
Yet, there is an uprising of disgruntled citizens. There is an underground movement against Big Brother and his
tyrannical rule. People are tired of having to use double speak. Even though most adults barely remember a world when Big Brother wasn''t in power, some people long for a different world.
The book is eerily ahead of its time. If you enjoy books that center around the idea of a New World Order or fear tyrannical rule, 1984 is a must read. It is similar to Aldous Huxley''s Brave New World.
