The Time
Machine is a short novel by H.G. Wells, developed through time by a series of
articles containing speculation of
the future, a
science-fiction. In 1888, he wrote these
articles for The Science Schools Journal . Before book publication in 1895, the story appeared in two serial versions.
The Time Traveller as it is referred to, is the central character in The Time Machine . It tells a group of friends that he has invented a machine that can travel through time that will enable him to investigate the destiny of human species. In the year 802701, the year he is temporarily stranded, he finds the meek and beautiful Eloi living in an idyllic circumstances but then he discovers they are the prey of the degenerate Morlocks, descendants of labourers who for centuries have lived underground. In later eras, Time Traveller sees the life-forms which survive the extinction of man, and 30 million years hence he is witness to the world''s final decline as the sun cools.
As in his succeeding works, H.G. Wells remained preoccupied with the need to save mankind from the kind of failure, as represented by the divided world of the Elois and the Morlocks.
