when he finds a blue stone. He does not know its real value until the stone hatches and out comes a small blue dragon sparkling like sapphires. He names it Sapphira.

Meanwhile Sapphira starts growing with trememdous speed and Eragon has to hide her outside his home where his foster father Garrow and foster brother Roran live. Eragon and Sapphira seem to have a mental contact through which they can understand each other better.
When Eragon tells Sapphira of the Raza''ac in their
village Carvahall, she kidnaps Eragon on her back and flies away. When in the next morning the come back they find Garrow''s house burnt to ashes and him in the wreckage with gastly wounds.
Roran meanwhile is working for a man who happens to take him away with him out of village. He is unaware of his father who dies after few days. Eragon leaves a note for him and is about to pursue the Raza''ac when the village storyteller Brom wishes to accompany him. He later turns out to be a dragon rider whose dragon had been killed years ago and who was
called Sapphira.
