Weather Warden

Book Review by: g3wY

Original Author: Rachel Caine
Weather Warden By Rachel Caine Book review I was recommended to read the book “ Weather Warden” by Rachel Caine and I found
it quite fascinating so I decided to write about it. It is a work of fiction and has very unusual story line. The story takes place in the country of unlimited possibilities – the United States of America. There is not an exact location because the characters do not stay only in a particular area, they travel all over America. The story is set in our days and that is visible by the modern technology which is used in the book. This time period leads to more interesting actions in the key parts of the story. In this gorgeous book there is one character that singles out – this is Joanne Baldwin. Joanne is a woman in her late twenties, middle height and dark hair. She is single, does not have any relatives and she is totally dedicated to her job. She works as a Stuff Warden in The Wardens Association and she can control the weather. With only one move of her hand there can appear a wave coming out of her palm and totally change the weather. There is also another character that is mentioned all the time. This is Lewis Levander Orwell who is the most powerful warden by controlling all the four earth elements. He is a friend to Joanne nearly at the same age as her, 1.80 tall with light hair and he is the most important person for Joanne. As the story starts the author throws the reader in the middle of the events and shows how Joanne needs Djinn in order to save herself from the Daemon Mark and the sure death after that. That is why she looks for Lewis who has stolen three of them and he is her only hope. Unfortunately for her he hides himself and no one knows where he is. She doesn’t give up and goes to his house. When she knocks on the door Lewis’s Djinn appears. He tells her to continue to Oklahoma City and she, without any doubt in the magical creator’s words is on her move to there. Surprisingly someone is after Joanne too. A furious storm is on her trails and she tries to stay as far as she could be from it. Jo realizes that the best squad from the Wardens Association is after her and she should hurry with finding Lewis. On her trip she meets a guy who’s name is David. He’s a hitchhiker and Joanne offers him a ride for a repayment for that she nearly hit him with her car. Later in the story Jo confess to David that he loves him but he replies that he is a Djinn and he is forbidden to feel something to a real girl. Then she tells to him how she has become in this position- during her probation as a warden her chief has been Bad Bob who is one of the most powerful wardens but he is popular with his bad temper. He became greedy and wanted more power so he get the Daemon Mark but when he found out that it will kill him he transferred it to Joanne. Trying to self-defense her she formed a lightning and she killed him on place. Since then she was trying to get rid of it. In the denouement Joanne finds Lewis who is kept by her best friend as a hostage. Jo fights against her “sister” to set free her only hope for a life. I am just amazed by this book. It has something unusual in it, some charm that can’t be just passed by. This is one of the most interesting books I have ever read and it’s not a waste of time. I’m impressed by many things in it but biggest impression made me the time period and the set of the story. When I started to read the book, honestly I thought that the story takes place somewhere in the past with this Djinn stuffs and imaginary things. In my opinion it would have been the same boring book created by someone’s imagine. But especially these things make the book so interesting. I don’t know what the author had on her mind when she wrote this gorgeous book but I think that there is a moral which is placed in the book and that is to not surrender when there is a difficult situation. It is exactly the opposite- you should face with all the problems you have and to fight them until you beat them. Ilike the author’s style of writing because it makes the story much more fascinating and give more passion on it. Rachel Caine has used a great variety of adjectives and they all suits in their place. The only thing that I didn’t like in this book is how the author presents the things. She changes the place of the actions all the time and returning in the past and that irritates me but it’s not a big deal. The most important thing is that I liked the book a lot and I’ll read the other books from the series.
