Sister Of The Dead

Book Review by: wampyrii

Original Authors: Barb Hendee ; J. C. Hendee
Sired for the purpose of hunting and slaying the undead, the half-human, half-vampire Magiere continues her quest to uncover
the mysteries which enshroud her existence.
In Sister Of The Dead, Magiere returns to the small village in which she was raised and shunned within in the hope of finding out why one of the Noble Dead would wish to create one capable of hunting their kind into extinction.
With her travelling companions in tow, the half-elf Leesil, fay hound Chap and scholarly sage Wynn, she is determined to track down her vampire father''s keep and hopefully discover some clues which will reveal some of the secrets of her creation.
It is Leesil however, who finds out more than he would wish to know but before he can reveal just what he discovered they must destroy a creature of unimaginable evil which threatens to engulf the town and destroy its people.
Sister Of The Dead by Barb & J.C. Hendee is a dark fantasy novel series which has been described as a mix between Buffy The Vampire Slayer and The Lord of The Rings. It is the middle book in the series and hence, probably is not going to flow too well unless you have read the previous two fantasy novels beginning with Dhampir and the Thief of Lives, both of which are written in the same vein as this one.
The Noble Dead series crosses the boundaries between vampire fiction and high fantasy, packing in plenty of swashbuckling action, biting wit and oodles of mystery and intrigue. The main characters are complex and the story compels you to turn the pages as the bits and pieces of the puzzle which surrounds their existences are revealed in sometimes agonisingly small portions.
The world and social structures of those races who dwell therein is both complex and fanscinating and Sister of the Dead is guaranteed to keep anyone who thinks they would like  a vampire / high fantasy genre bending novel turning pages well into the wee small hours.
