The second book in the "Farseer Series", "Royal
Assassin" is as addictive as her previous book, "Assassin's Apprentice".
Fitz is greatly weakened by his close call in the mountain country and has lost all interest in going back to Buckkeep and his life as an
assassin who's life is in danger by Prince Regal.
Despite not being a proficient skiller Fitz does have the Skill and witnesses a particularly terrible attack by the Red Raiders in which the love of his life, Molly may or may not have survived. Rushing back to Buckkeep, Fitz soon gets involved in the politics and intrigues there while juggling his life as an assassin, his role as King's man to King-in-Waiting, Verity, lover to Molly and pack-leader to Nighteyes his wolf. King Shrewd is sick and getting weaker daily; King-in-Waiting Verity is
working hard as usual to keep the kingdom safe from the Red Raiders but the situation is almost hopeless. In the meantime, Prince Regal is working to increase his popularity especially in the inland Dutchies while Verity's new wife is winning the hearts of the coastal Dutchies.
In desperation for their future Verity sets out to find the legendary Elderllings who are supposed to have promised to help the Farseers if they ever needed their help. Verity's departure after mystical creatures is not taken well by his people and Regal gains more and more power.
Then Verity reportedly dies and his wife finds out she is pregnant. All that lays between Regal and the throne now are his very weak father and the unborn baby. Can Chade, Fool and Fitz keep them safe?
