BRISINGR

Book Review   by:zeraphina     Original Author: Christopher Paolini
ª

WARNING: There are spoilers ahead. The third book in the Inheritance Trilogy was supposed to have been released during the spring of 2007. But the date was postponed since the third book was too big to complete on time. Later it was decided to extend the three book series into a four book cycle. The reason given for the change was that, in order to contain the remaining story of Eragon the third book had become too large a volume. So the third book was to be written in two volumes. On January 16, 2008 the news was released that the third book was to be named BRISINGR. Christopher Paolini cited that Brisingr was the first word in the Ancient Language to be uttered by Eragon and also that it has greater significance than even what Eragon could have known. The word Brisinger means “fire” used by the magic users to summon fire and use it in combat. The fans speculate that it may have more importance than being the name of the book and may be the true name of Eragon since the first two books' names are closely related to the major characters. The book cover has the picture of the gold dragon, Glaedr, looking to the right, drawn by John Jude Palencar. Brisingr was scheduled to be released on September 23, 2008. But due to the overwhelming enthusiasm of the book sellers and the readers the book will go on sale on September 20, 2008 at 12:01 AM. A midnight party is planned in the style of Harry Potter release. Another spoiler which has been released on the official inheritance site is that Eragon will meet a God in this book. During the Inheritance Cycle video announcement Christopher Paolini said that a major character will die in the final chapters creating a dramatic ending to the book. He also said that Eragon and Roran will attack Helgrind and Eragon will face a moral dilemma . Some of the things which may be revealed in the upcoming book are: Till the ending of the Eldest the Varden favored Nasuada as their leader. Will they continue to do so? Will Saphira finally find a mate? How did Murtagh’s dragon, Thorn mature so fast to rival Saphira while Saphira took a long time to grow up?What about Tornac, Murtagh’s old friend? If the spirits called by the sorcerers were not the spirits of the sentient beings from the afterlife, what are they? How will Elva and others play an important role? The general synopsis of Brisingr is "Forces collide in Book III of the phenomenally successful Inheritance Cycle.
Eragon represents the greatest hope for a better Alagaesia. Can this once simple farm boy rise to become a leader who can unite the rebel forces and defeat the King? Following the colossal battle against the Empire's warriors on the Burning Plains, Eragon and his dragon, Saphira, have narrowly escaped with their lives. Still there is more at hand for the Rider and his dragon, as Eragon finds himself bound by a tangle of promises he may not be able to keep, including Eragon's oath to his cousin Roran to help rescue Roran's beloved, Katrina, from King Galbatorix's clutches. But Eragon owes his loyalty to others, too. The Varden are in desperate need of his talents and strength, as are the elves and dwarves. When unrest claims the rebels and danger strikes from every corner, Eragon must make choices - choices that take him across the Empire and beyond, choices that may lead to unimagined sacrifice. Conflict, action, adventure and one devastating death await readers as Eragon battles on behalf of the Varden while Galbatorix ruthlessly attempts to crush and twist him to his own purposes. Rich with a thoughtful examination of Eragon's maturing psyche, "Brisingr" explores how Eragon must come to terms with his role as a leader and the moral obligations that weigh heavily upon his young shoulders as a Dragon Rider."
