For countless millennia, the people of the Gheera galaxy have occupied themselves with the production of fabulous
hair carpets. Highest of all in their
society, ranks the
Carpet maker himself, who, by knotting together the hair of his wives and daughters, produces in his lifetime only one hair carpet. It is his sacred duty to the spectre of the godlike Emperor. But then comes an unexpected ripple in their society. Nillian, a rebellious explorer lands in their midst with the unbelievable news of the Emperor''s demise at the hands of the revolution. His expedition, however, sends back to his world the seeds of a mystery. For, in the Emperor''s gigantic Palace, no one has ever heard of the existence of hair carpets. Where, then, do they go? And what purpose do they serve? Could a whole industry have been founded upon nothing more than a tyrant''s bitter revenge against a proud king''s defiance?
