The Best There is 2
Having given Ray Bradbury first colours, it is in no way demeaning that I mention H. G. Wells as my second choice. Although he preceded Bradbury by almost half a century, his imagination was no less prolific. Reading The Time Machine for the first time I was spell bound to put it mildly, it was a story that gave me an idea I have now put on paper, a sequel called unsurprisingly The Time Machines!
H. G. Wells was responsible for many novels in his time, Ann Veronica, In the Days of the Comet, The Island of Dr. Moreau, The First Men in the Moon, The Invisible Man, The History of Mr. Polly, When the Sleeper Wakes, The Time Machine, Tono-Bungay, The War in the Air, and The War of the Worlds. The works that stand out for me, and I must confess the only ones by HG that I have read are, The Time Machine, The War of the Worlds, The Invisible Man, and The First Men in the Moon. Being the writer he was, I know the others will be equally as good, and will get ‘round to reading the them before I die!
Again, I have to say that like Bradbury, H. G. Wells will transport your to another time or place, they were indeed writers that with consummate ease could weave a picture in anyone’s mind! So when you look out of the window and see a coating of hoar frost on everything, pull a good H. G. Wells off the shelf, pour a glass of brandy, and lose yourself for a time!
