Garion and his friends continue on their quest to find his kidnapped son. He started out with his grandfather (Belgarath the Sorcerer), his aunt (Polgara the Sorceress), his wife, Silk (The Guide), Errand (Bearer of the Orb), and Durnik (Man with Two Lives and Polgara's husband)
On the continuing journey, other members join them: Velvet the Huntress and Sadi the Man who is no Man. Belgarath is not pleased with these additions, but the Prophecy which rules them all overrules him.
They follow the trail to Rak Urga in the land of the Murgos. There they discover a secret about Silk that even he didn't know. After that, they move on to the Isle of Verkat where they're cruelly betrayed to the Malloreans by one of their own.
