The first part of the inkworld trilogy by Cornelia Funke - Inkheart, a story about Meggie and Mo and their encounter with
a world made of ink & words. The story is about Meggie, a twelve year old girl, and her father Mortimer, a bookbinder who has a unique ability to lure characters out of their books into the living world. The start is good with not many characters mentioned. Then slowly more and more interesting characters are introduced like a grumpy aunt who by her antics makes quite a comedy. Later the story gets a bit disrupted and doesn't move much further. With the entry of the evil villains the story takes a nice turn with certain revealations to Meggie.
There are a bit loose parts in between where you feel like putting the book away but then more and more characters come up with their connections to the main characters and this element keeps the book well connected. The words chosen are very good not difficult to understand. And the chemistry between Farid and Meggie is good considering this is the first part.
The climax keeps you well attached to the book. But there is a little disappointment in the end. Some characters don't make quite sense for their existence in the story. It is good for those who like the idea of enchanted worlds and fairies and Magic. But for those who like suspense and thriller this might not be the perfect book for them. Apart from that, the character names are quite good and not at all confusing. Description of the charaters is also done nicely. At the end of the book you feel desperate to read the other two parts also.
Its a nice book to read during a lonely afternoon. Though one should not keep much expectation from this one. The best I liked about this book is surely the villian and the tension which he creates.
