Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief
It was just another day for dear Percy Jackson, diagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia. He and his classmates were on a museum trip near New York when the incident that changed Percy's life took place.
Percy had never been an excellent student, although he did know his facts and names when it came to Greek mythology. He didn't know why, but all his life he had been feeling a power inside him, causing some rifts in time and space. Suddenly, when his friend Grover was being chased by a bully, Percy couldn't stop himself, the anger inside him exploded, and he unleashed his powers as a demigod for the first time. Mrs Dodds, his substitution math teacher who was actually a Fury sent by Hades to keep a watch over Percy to see if he was the one who had been sired by Poseidon himself, got hold of this incident and attacked Percy in her true form in a deserted part of the museum. Eventually, with Chiron's magical pen that could turn into a sword, Percy killed the Fury and he was taken back in time through Chiron's manipulation of the power called the Mist, that kept normal mortals from seeing the monsters that lurked in their midst.
No one remembered the incident with the Fury and Percy's powers being unleashed except Percy, although Grover couldn't fool him and he found out on the last day of his final exams that some kind of Lightning Bolt had to be returned to Lord Zeus by the summer solstice.Percy goes home with Grover and, on the way, he sees some old ladies knitting at the bus stop. They look at him and snip off a string of wool. Although the snip must have been very light, Percy heard the SNIP sound even in the middle of a busy bus depot. He told Grover about this, and Grover acted very nervous. While Grover went off to the bathroom, Percy slipped away and caught a cab home. When he reached home, his mother like always greeted him lovingly, but his stepfather, Gabe Ugliano, who was a drunkard and a gambler, like always, insulted him and asked for money. Percy argued, but his mother finally told him that they were going to the beach where she met his father, and Percy acted politely and gave his father the money.
Percy and his mother took the car to the beach and they stayed in the cabin where his mother and his father had met. They talked for a time, but then a storm started to brew, and Grover, with goat's legs cam and told them that they had to get out of here as fast as they could. They got into the car, and drove Percy to the Camp that his mother had been talking about in the car. A Minotaur came out of nowhere and smashed their car. Percy and Grover got out of the car, but his mother was killed by the Minotaur. Seeing this, Percy got into a rage, and killed the Minotaur easily. Then, right after killing it, Percy fainted.
He woke up three days later, sipping some kind of nectar called ambrosia, the drink of the gods. He was taken to Chiron and Dionysus, where he finally understood that he was a demigod. Chiron told him that Zeus thought that Percy, who was a son of Poseidon, had stolen the bolt for Poseidon to keep. He had to get it back before summer solstice, or else there would be a huge war again and the Earth would be in total ruins.
Percy decides to go on the quest with Grover and Annabeth, who is a daughter of Athena. They go out with Percy wielding his sword and flying boots, given to him by Luke, son of Hermes.
They set out to find the bolt, and they meet Ares, the god of war, who tells them that to find a way into the Underworld, they must fetch a shield for him which was lost by Ares in a water park. They find the shield, and narrowly escape being broad casted to Olympus. They give the shield to Ares, who tells them the way. They get into the underworld and meet Hades, who tells him that to get his mother back, he must get the Bolt, as his mother has only been frozen in time, not killed.
They tell him that they do not know the location, but then Hades tells him that the Bolt was in his backpack all the time. The escape the Underworld and get to Olympus, which is located on the Empire State Building's highest floor. They get to Olympus just in time, and Zeus forgives Percy for stealing the bolt, although he did not steal it, and Percy meets his father for the first time.
Percy returns to Camp Half-Blood, and keeps training for future challenges after meeting his mother, back from the Underworld.
