Orwell is a very diverse writer. In this book, his penning gives rise to a piece of work fundamental to the understanding
of politics in today's world. It warns the reader of what can happen in the future if one isn't responsable. Winston Smith is the main character who lives in an oppressive society whose objective is to suppress any form of thought. Winston starts reading a history book that falls into his hands, which refers him to a
reality linked with the past. This reality has been completely erased by Ingsoc, the governing political party. Many references to the present can be found in the book, such as BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU and other key phrases that connect the book to today's world of reality tv and other programmes made to 'entertain' the general public. This book is
recommended for several reasons: its witty critique of today's world, the drama experienced by the main character and its aesthetic value. It is also strongly recommended for those who want to improve their English and read something with substance at the same time. Go to the bookstore and get a copy or request it through the internet. And believe me, it will be a book you read again, sooner or later. This is the third time I'm reading it and I still extract new meanings from Orwell's masterpiece.
