“Holidays at last!” thinks Chris to himself. But not in Ireland after all, and certainly not in that dump Killarny! But unfortunately
Chris is still unlucky. Instead of sailing in his uncle's freight tugboat over the Rhine, he is now stuck many kilometres from the next big town in a small village in Ireland and absolutely nothing more exciting is happening than the detonation necessary for a street which is to go through the mountains. It is for that reason that his father is here. So the events which bring Chris an unasked for entry into the parallel world of “Erinn” come at just the right time. There he discovers that his help is certainly needed, for the barbarians have taken over the country and only a dragon can hold them back. It would be the only possible escape for the 'civilised world' and he is the only one who can procure the dragon's services. There are still people, like his friend Prince Llewellyen, who are against using the dragon. And that is for a good reason: if the dragon were to become stronger, then the wizards themselves would no longer be able to contain him and use him for their purposes. Despite some objections, the decision to get the dragon or not rests solely with Chris himself, and finally he sets off to do this. The journey keeps bringing more problems and when he gets to know Ayya he realises that the so-called barbarians are also people with families they are fighting for. However, Chris continues onwards and actually manages to bring back a dragon. But the dragon has barely woken up before it is out of control and Erinn is poised on the verge of its downfall. It is good that Chris can escape back to his world! An excellent book from Wolfgang and Heike Hohlbein, who continually surmount themselves in the field of fantasy and suspense.
