The 27'nd novel in the famous Discworld series does stray a bit from
whats
usual, in that it almost solely follows one sigle character
throughout the book, Sir Samuel Vimes. The main plot is that during the
arrest of a murderous criminal, Carcer, Sam is accidentaly sent about
30 years back in
time. It is the night before the the grand
revolution,
where "Mad" Lord Snapcase seized the throne of power. One problem is
that Sam does not know how to return to the present, another is that
his consciousness quickly bids him to try saving the hides of a few
good men otherwise to die during the revolution, but worst of all is
that Carcer is also back in time. Adding to all the merryment is
the
fact that it is up to Sam to teach the new
recruit how
life in the
city watch is strung together, the major obstacle here being the fact
that the young recruit is in fact him self...The whole story is
brilliantly put together, and with Terry's usual wit and hillarious
narration, the avid reader can be certain of countless hours with
excitement, fun and crazy entertainment, as only Discworld is able to
deliver.
Meet Nobby as a dirty street urchin, find out how Reg Shoe
lost his life, discover hitherto unknown detaios about Vetinari's years
of youth, and last but not least, meet "The Men in Saphron", the
history monks from "Thief of Time".As a famous critic usually writes: "The best Discworld book in the whole universe, ever! until next time..."
