Everyone in the world wants to be
happy. This objective of our being happy, is in our hands, and not in any one else’s hands. The author is the founder of the Himalayan Institute in Pennsylvania, USA. He has experiences of extremes, having lived his life in various difficulties and roles. According to him happiness is our own creation. We should live in present, not in the past or future. We should keep our
mind cool, and turn it inwards. We should do our duty without expecting anything, so that when we do not expect and we do not get it, we will not be unhappy, though we may not be happy. He tells us, ways to master our
body and mind, and then to change the environment around us. This is the essence of the ten Chapters of this book, containing the following main topics: knowing self, positive living, personality, emotions, memory, willpower, intention, purifying, spirituality and meditation.
One of the Chapters discusses about developing
strength and will power, which are necessary for progress. To get happiness, it is essential to coordinate the mind and body. We have to study and understand our mind ourselves, internally. If we examine our fears, we can get rid of such fears. Power of our mind and
thoughts, is most important. We should enjoy doing work, and also helping others, with real interest, and with real and good intentions. There is no use in doing it halfheartedly. Also our actions must not hurt others. By having consideration for other persons, we can strengthen ourselves. We should not be selfish in our actions. We must keep some time daily, for ourselves. We must observe our mind, and the thoughts coming therein. We should not take adverse comments to our heart. If our inner strength is built up, we will not be affected by such points. We should not accept them. We should be balanced enough, to restrain our reactions on all points. These do not remain in mind for ever. Thoughts come and go. So let bad points go. We must not stop, coming in of the thoughts. We should then encourage good thoughts. Meditation is necessary for us, but so is preparing for it. We have to understand and
control our mind. We have to do introspection, and counsel ourselves. Internal dialogue is the best. Honesty is the best policy, esp. with self and others. Also we have to learn to adjust in our relationships. We must develop interest in welfare of others, and enjoy the same. Our being gentle makes us strong. We should be calm in our approach. We all have some
negative habits, but we should not surrender to them. We should not accept defeat, from the negative thoughts. We can overcome them. We have to learn, to be strong from within. Will power is essential, for achieving things.
