Modern day world is known to cause and create tension in our busy daily
life, thus leading to many ailments for some of which, there is no
cure yet. Meditation is one technique, which is capable of and in use, for reducing tension. Meditation makes us have a break, so that we can look inwards, and become aware of the self. The present book discusses this topic in its 13 Chapters, mainly covering 3 systems of Meditation, namely Jain, Buddha and Patanjali Yoga.
It stresses on awareness of the self, which is the objective of life. We should live in the present, and accept the life as it comes. This helps us in getting peace and
happiness. The author points out that the true self is, beyond body and
mind. The main practices of Jain religion are right conduct, evenness of mind, retreat, giving up concern for the body, fasting, study, meditation etc. There are various methods for obtaining concentration, but we can get peace of mind, only when we are detached, satisfied and free from desires. We should learn meditation correctly, become a detached observer and thus overcome suffering. With Meditation, we can get
control over the mind. It is advisable to live without worry or
fear of any kind. We should not have the feeling of suffering due to pain, but take it as an opportunity to learn. We should know our sensations fully, to end the suffering. Vipassana Meditation makes this possible as an individual. In a social way, if we arrange training of persons for a detached view towards life and a fellow-feeling, social behavior is expected to change for the better. This will purify the minds, and lead to peace everywhere. We come to the world with some desires, and during our life, we try to fulfill them. When all desires are fulfilled, body and soul get separated and we get enlightened. After Meditation and Vipassana, we get feelings of happiness, kindness and friendliness for everybody, along with peace of mind and pure thoughts. Kindness helps us in detaching ourselves with the body and other things. By using various means for helping other people, we can make ourselves free of desires, and obtain eternal
bliss. We should become contented with what we have in the present, so that we can become happy. Happiness is within us. This book is an educative and readable book. It is useful for those, who desire to get initiated into Meditation. It should be read slowly, assimilated and practiced daily, for the ultimate benefit.
