"Men Who Hate Women and the Women Who Love Them" is written by by Dr. Susan Forward with Joan Torres, published by Bantam in 1987.
The title of this book is rather long. practically revealing what the book is leading to. Actually, the sub-title goes "When Loving Hurts and You Don't Know Why."  The story starts with the a sad tale of a beautiful and glamorous fashion consultant for a successful Los Angeles entertainment lawyer. Woefully, in four years, she has been turned into an overweight, unattractive, and sloppy woman, with hardly any self-esteen left and self-confidence so diminished. Her husband so controlled her so as  to abuse her unmercifully, exactly the opposite of what he used to be - the wonderful, loving and exciting partner that she had fallen in love with.
Dr. Forward writes that as a therapist, she has felt discomforted by some women's utterly devastating life experiences with men in their life. Having heard so many women in her practice with similar experiences and problems, she began to explore the situation and dynamics leading to why some men who used to charm and care turns to be ruthless monsters that they can be. The result of Fr. Forward's findings is discussed and explored, in part, in this book.
Instead of being judgmental why men have become to be "that" way and to start bashing them, Dr. Susan Forward explains what can be done about it. Many of her clients are able to overcome and to salvage their marriages and relationships. While others did not meet with success, some lessons are still learned.
Women should try to find out and to explore if they are ready for the relationship, or if not, then to do something about it. As a couple, both partners should reach out and grow together to a healthier relationship – caring and nurturing to both. This book suggests ways how women can stop the pain, and grow in a positive way. It can also help those who are in turbulent relationships.
