Abstract: - Rain by Jeffrey is simple and very absorbing real- life story of a paperboy, which inspires many to be successful
entrepreneurs, businessman or marketing manger and rise to be CEO. Rain is a living example of many distinguished men and women who are celebrities today they had been paper boy /girl in their early life.
A paperboy/ girl have indefatigable entrepreneur spirit and purchasing, packaging, selling, delivery to the door-step of their customer on time and every day, 6-7 days a week in rain or shine and that too in hours of darkness when their clients/customers are sleeping or enjoying their morning cup of tea.
This is a great example of entrepreneurship without having formal business qualification of mentoring. Indeed they have made America and they continue contribute. The author has identified ex paperboys who are great celebrities like Tom Chappell, DD Eisenhower, Bob hope, Tom Cruise John Wayne, Ken Lewis.
Paperboy got to be trustworthy, reliable, energetic and innovative/improviser to beat the clock and meet customer expectations and the targets set by the delivery organization.
It is imaging how a 13 year old boy studying in 7th grade did meticulous planning for his ensuring interview with the Gazette distributor. He did well in the interview stating truthfully that he wanted to earn lot of money and while continuing with his studies he was prepared to go through all the hardship of getting up early, carrying load of paper and even cycle across the city. He was determined to ensure complete satisfaction of various customers’ i.e. on-time, unchanged delivery of paper 7 days of a week. This earned him extra tips since he delighted the customers with his consistent and good services. He knew wrong delivery , damaged goods (paper) or delay will cause him loss money , lose customer and even job. As a paperboy one is own boss and for oneself and it gets tax-free income. He needed on-the job training of planning route, identifying house customer and make a good throw of paper and even introduction by putting sticker with name on that, He had to ward off street dogs. In case of damage to the paper he promised discount. He quickly learned ways to get more customers to sell more papers and make more money. This he got through referrals where for a week he offered free papers and thus won the award for maximum sale. His ability to grab every opportunity to expand his business acts like an entrepreneur. He thereafter engaged new boys to train and deploy them as his net work. He used innovative methods to advertise others products and thus earn more money for running marketing campaign for them.
This small book is packed with amazing business ideas told in starting form . Indeed this book will help many business managers to become CEO.
