Published
by Dutton Books on October 11, 2005, “A
New Earth,” is a product of the
evolution since previously published, “The Power of Now,” and while one needn’t
necessarily (though I highly recommend
it) read the primordial piece, “A New Earth,” is even more powerful than its
predecessors, as it uses P.O.N. as its foundation.
This
installation (I’m suspecting and predicting that there will be other, more
advanced, more powerful gradations) of the genius that is the mind of Tolle, is
a compressed 288 pages of simplistic & complicated magic.
I checked
this book out from the library three times, in vain attempts to read the tome
in its entirety, only to be foiled by its depth and solidity. It’s impossible for a Dissociative of any
depth to
consider a
single paragraph, without loosing him/herself the grip and
responsibilities of current reality. It’s
akin to discerning a given point on an M.C.
Escher drawing. Just when you think
you’ve located a point of reference, you
realize that you are only lost in the
illusion. You realize that you cannot
pull at a single thread, without the eventual decomposition of an entire body
of fabric.
Typical of
Tolle’s writing style, each paragraph is a substantive concept in and of
itself. Every last sentence of each paragraph
is a summary.
By offering
the reader a new way to consider his/her
life, existence, disposition,
behaviors and manners of thinking and operating, Tolle offers relief from that
which binds and keeps us in one spot, marking time. He proffers a host of new ways to consider
all things, starting with the manner in which we know that a
foot exists
without moving or viewing said foot.
This forces
an insight that one might not otherwise have.
Not to mention, a series of life-altering ideas.
