I wrote this book. It was prompted rather than inspired as I watched a friend venture into a romantically hazardous situation. I
wondered how one so intelligent could be so foolish. I wondered too why so many of us often knowingly choose misery in seeking happiness. The title We exist! Why? was given by
inspiration after I was offered the publishing deal, and I had to fight the publishing company hard to keep it... The purpose of this book is to invite the reader to think about things they already know but often take for granted. It asks many questions and states facts that no one can deny are true. One such example discussed in brief is the fact that nothing other than
food satisfies hunger. I use examples of personal experience throughout to illustrate each point. I wrote plainly and simply so that even a child can get an immediate understanding. I wanted it to be instantly impacting and it is: You don't have to analyze it deeply to get the message. And it won't leave you confused. In fact it is written in such a way that you can open it to any page randomly and isolate and read any paragraph, and you will still get the meaning of the message of that single paragraph. The opening line reads as follows: "No matter who you are, or where you are, one thing is sure: you exist." The book goes further to question why we exist, suggesting that every single inanimate object that has been
created by man past and present was created for a purpose. I had never aspired to write a book of any sort, but how ironic it is that for having written this book I came to know my purpose and to appreciate my life experiences.
SynopsisThis book challenges us to consider the possibility that we
exist for a definite purpose, and to embark on a personal search for answers to the meaning of life, a quest for truth. Or will we settle for second best - a lesser life than the one we truly desire and deserve? Can we find purpose and fulfilment in life from following our basic instincts, through over-indulgence, by accumulating wealth, by achieving professional status, by accepting commonly held beliefs and arguments, or by following the latest fashions and trends? Are we neglecting our spiritual and mental needs? The formula put forward is that
knowledge = truth = power; not power in a dictatorial sense, but the power to stand our ground, to swim against the tide, to hold onto our beliefs regardless of the opinions of others. We have been given wings, but are we ready to fly to higher levels of existence, to embark on a journey of self-discovery and self-improvement, to change our lives for the better? That is the challenge. It is our choice.
