Despite Anupama hailing from a poor family, and Dr. Anand being very rich, Dr. Anand marries Anupama against the wishes of her mother Radhakka. Dr. Anand leaves for higher studies abroad, leaving Anupama behind on the insistence of Radhakka, for a few months.
One day during the daily chores of the house, Anupama burns her foot and on no time, develops a white patch. When her mother-in-law finds about Anupama’s disease, Leukoderma, she is discarded to her father’s house. When Dr. Anand finds about Anupama’s white patches, he abandons her forgetting his love and commitment.
Anupama is treated as an outcast by her stepmother in her native village. Anupama decides to shift to Mumbai and becomes self-dependant. She lives with her friend Sumitra, and her colleague, Dolly and starts working as a Sanskrit lecturer in a college at Ville-Parle.
Dr. Vasant, a doctor treats Anupama when she meets with an accident on a road. Discovering the beautiful girl behind those patches, Dr. Vasant falls in love with Anupama and proposes her for marriage. On the other hand Dr. Anand realises his mistakes and meets Anupama during a Sanskrit stage play, in “Swapna Vasava Dutta”. Dr. Anand apologises Anupama and request her to join him as his wife. Anupama can’t understand Dr. Anand’s sentiments because she had lost all hopes from him.
Anupama rejects Dr. Anand and Dr. Vasant’s offer. She renounces the marital bliss of society and decides to live for herself as a true Mahashweta.
