Angelo De Grasso grew up in a monastery, through guidance provided by his teacher Piero El Grande he became a renowned Italian Inquisitor during the end of the 1500''s. During his career as Inquisitor he becomes involved with two books called Necromicon and Codex Esmeralda, unknowst to him the highest authorities of the
Inquisition consider these to be the instructions the devil has written to achieve demonic eternal life. There are three institutions that crave the ownership of both the Necromicon and Codex Esmeralda. The first is the Catholic Church whom De Grasso serves, the second is The Devil Worshiping Society and the third is a small sect within the Catholic Church called the Corpus Carus. The Catholic Church wants it to destroy both books, that way the information on how to achieve demonic eternal life is never divulged, the Devil Worshiping Society wants them to redeem the devil and achieve eternal life, and Corpus Carus believes that the Church will not destroy them but study and divulge them, so they want to prevent that from happening. Angelo de Grasso goes to Rome called by the Pope, and stays at a friends house. He falls in love with the friends daughter who later comes and visits him at the Monastery where they begin an illicit love affair. The meeting with the Pope results in De Grasso being sent by the Catholic Church, through a recommendation from the Popes'' Astrologer, to retrieve both demonic books that are now in America. On his way to America he is served by a notary by the name of Evola whom he distrusts. On this trip he finds both books, and is torn by the want to read them, although he has been prohibited to do so. De Grasso, prior to his leaving to America has been given a letter from his teacher Piero El Grande , in which El Grande revealers that he is the Grand Master for Corpus Carus and that he invites De Grasso to be a part of it. Understanding the reason of existence for Corpus Carus, De Grasso decides to switch sides and form part of Corpus Carus. When the Notary is aware of De Grasso''s change of loyalty, he advises church authorities and De Grasso is taken in to be judged by Inquisition Authorities. The Inquisition demands both books from him and he refuses. His notary comes and visits him to negotiate. His love has been apprehended and accused as a witch. The Church fabricated evidence against her. The Notary clearly states that if De Grasso were to return the books, she would be freed from the inquisition. Through De Grasso''s connections he is able to escape prison and return the books, even though this means to betray Corpus Carus. When De Grasso finds out that she was not released, but raped and killed by the Inquisition he returns to the Vatican to retrieve the books. When he skillfully arrives without being caught he runs into the Popes astrologer that claims to be the Grand Master of Corpus Carus. The Astrologer gives the books to De Grasso and as he is escaping De Grasso is caught by Inquisition Authorities and then saved by members of Corups Carus. When he finally has the opportunity to look at the books, he is devastated to find they were only copies filled with white paper, the Astrologer had kept the real books. Later we find that the Astrologer is actually the Grand Master of the Devil Worshiping Society and just as he is to finish the final potion to take him to eternal life Evola finds him and prevents him from doing so.
