I came across this book through the Richard and Judy book club. I didn''''t know what to make of it at first, I read the blurb on the back and was expecting a good old-fashioned Dracula novel. Being a big fan of the classic Dracula movies I looked forward to reading this take on the story. It wasn''''t quite what I was expecting. The story follows the account history of a daughter and father as they piece together the connection Dracula has to their family.
However, the story is told through so many different points of view, by letters, conversations, transcripts, post cards, direct eye witness accounts, that you''''ve all too often forgotten who''''s account you''''ve just heard and where it fits into the story. At over 700 pages long this isn''''t a novel for the faint hearted and wasn''''t one you could dip in and out of. This is a novel for a long summers break where you can devote some time and effort to getting to grips with the story and the characters. A lot happens in this novel and there is an awful lot to remember in order to put it all together in the final chapters. I enjoyed it, but I found it a struggle. I''''ll look
out for more of her work as she is obviously a very accomplished story teller but I''''ll dig out a comfy deckchair on a hot summers day first.
