An
old photograph amidst those from a recently developed roll...Simple, but impossible. That is how this magnificent novel from the maestro Harlan Coben begins. Always twisting the tale, he puts together a series of characters, all the more intriguing for their simplicity. The husband of the
protagonist disappears upon seeing the photo, or so she deduces...It is
impossible to find him and the events linking the present with the
past start to knit together like some kind of predestination...Grace, the protagonist, undertakes a search in the dark, with only the old
photo to go on, a photo showing people who are already dead, one of them marked with a red X...You can't put it down, it surprises you from the very first page and takes you by the hand to the last, leaving you open-mouthed with one of the most surprising conclusions of the suspense genre. Characters unrelated to those in the photo cross and weave the threads which link it to them too. Grace intuits that her children are also a part of this mystery and that she must save them. A terrible event in her past also makes her feel guilty for a death which she did not cause...Or perhaps she really did, and she cannot remember clearly because of the trauma she suffered and which has accompanied her throughout her adult life? Don't miss it...you'll never guess the ending..and, please, don't tell your friends what happens or you'll deny them a great pleasure!!!
