"King Lear, written in 1605-1606 is one of the most
complex of Shakespeare''s
tragedy perhaps it is the most complex of all the tragedies, Why?
If we examine the play on one level the compexity is the result of an apparently
double plot and inter-relationships among an unusually large number of principle characters. What is the connectin between the Gloucester plot on the Leat Plot? Does and echo, the other, giving us a kind of double view of parental misunderstanding or are they integrated in some fundamental way. In seeking the answe, one had to move into the underlying problem of the
meaning of the play. Here, one will find it useful to see what one has learned in "Oedipus", that will throw light upon the tragic statement of "Lear".
But the question of meaning will involve the reader in study of the system of
imagery and symbole, which Shakespeare uses. In Henry-IV(i), Shakespeare has shown how to use imagery to quality meaning in "King Lear", he shows tremendous feeling and variety of imagery, which must be taken into account, if the intents of the play is to defined.
