DECALOGUE TO VISIT THE ISLAND OF TAQUILE / The book, sponsored by the UNA, Universidad
Nacional del Altiplano
University of the Altiplano>, shows details of a series of useful concepts for people who are dedicated to tourism as well as to the general public who wish to clarify and consolidate concepts. It gives relevant definitions to broaden the general culture, and not only helps to offer more information about the institutions that are linked to this fumeless enterprise called tourism, but also helps people become well informed tourists who know their own rights and obligations. 1. Taquile is a living culture established on a charming and peaceful island. It represents an original tourist product that offers itself to us as a “Living Museum”. It is surrounded by an ecosystem that is in the process of reaching planned sustainability and support from the peasant community as a sui generis sample of human development of a new artisanal model of development within the framework of Andean reciprocity and rationality. 2. We should not only admire the place, but also respect its socio-cultural, environmental and living manifestations in its entire dimension, respectfully participating in their daily and programmed activities. 3. We should communicate with the inhabitants and visitors naturally, with solidarity, discretion and mutual respect. 4. The tourist’s behavior should not perturb nor alter the personal family and environmental conduct of the community. 5. We should be attentive with the islanders and visitors, courteously and kindly answering the greetings and hospitality that is being offered. 6. At the boarding house where you are staying try to get to know all of the family members by name, to guarantee an effective communication and have a pleasant stay with their help and orientation. 7. For any information, procedures or other convenient inquiries communicate with the head of the family, or in his absence with other members of the family or community authority. 8. The fact that you are lodged in a boarding house does not allow you to enter any of the family rooms other than your assigned bedroom and bathroom, if there is any, without the consent or invitation of the family. 9. It is an ethical and moral condition not to take with you any type of illegal drug prohibited by Peruvian laws, and much less to commercialize or use it. The trash that is produced by the visitor must be taken by him/her out of his/her own initiative, to the original cities on land wherever there are collection and treatment systems. 10. The maximum stay in Taquile is of 07 renewable days if the present Decalogue, as well as the local dispositions and national legislation related to tourists have been respected.“WHEN IN ROME DO AS THE ROMANS DO” ,“Tourist Terminology” Gamaliel de Amat Quiroz & Edwin de Amat Quiroz.
