Delhi has been the capital of India from ancient times. It is situated on the banks of Yamuna River. Edward Lutyens
designed the city of New Delhi. It is a modern city many flyovers and sports stadiums. Delhi is now given the status of a state. The central government has its
offices
in Delhi.
Rashtrapati Bhavan is situated on Raisina hill. The office of the prime minister is in the north blocks of the Rashtrapati Bhavan. The parliament house is located near Rashtrapati Bhavan.
All foreign countries have their embassies and high commission offices in New Delhi.
We can call Delhi mini-India as people from all over the country live here. There are many places of worship like Gurdwar Bangla Sahib, Jama Masjid, Birla Mandir, Lotus temple, St. James church.
All the state governments have their official representative’s guest houses and emporiums in Delhi. Almost all the festivals of India are celebrated in Delhi.
Delhi has an extreme climate. It is very hot in summers and the winters are very clod. The most popular dresses are shirts and
trousers
for men and sari and salwar-suit for women. Girls too wear trousers and skirts.
Places of tourist interest
Tourists from all over the world visit Delhi to see the old to see the monuments like red fort, Jama Masjid, Jantar Mantar, Qutub Minar etc. These buildings are made of red sand stone.
Other places of tourist attraction are India gate, Nehru planetarium, humayun’s tomb, Lodi garden, Appu Ghar, Raj Ghat, Shanti van, lotus temple, Zoo, BAL Bhavan and Doll’s Museum.
Amar Jawan Jyoti is lit at India gate in the memory of soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the World War I.
