Molly Moon and the incredible book of hypnotism

Book Review by: Penny1234

Original Author: Georgia Byng
This abstract was translated from Molly Moon y el increible libro del hipnotismo
Molly Moon is a child who achieves the level of power to which all children aspire, especially those who are unhappy and
mistreated. Why not dream that you are all powerful, like Superman, that you can make things right and at the same time give a good slap in the face to the fools annoying you. Well, you can be all powerful if you can control people with just a simple look, submitting them to your will. Hypnotism brings with it infinite possibilities for a child to get what it wants.
Molly moon is an orphan living in a horrible English orphanage called Hardwick House. One day, she comes across a mysterious old book and surprisingly Molly is able to untangle the intricacies of the hypnotic methods within the book and she does this so well that she even managed to hypnotise the dog, Petula, belonging to the evil mistress of the orphanage. From that point on, Molly starts her meteoric career as a hypnotist, anonymously of course as she cannot let anyone find out about her new skill. Everyone falls under the influence of her look and she takes great pleasure in throwing back in their faces all the nightmares to which they submitted her and which made her life in the orphanage impossible.
At the height of her success, she lacks a best friend to share it with. Rocky, the child who was like a brother to her since he was abandoned on the same day that Molly arrived, has been given up for adoption and taken to New York. However, with her new skill that is no problem for Molly as she is perfectly able and brave enough to go in search for him in the metropolis. She now feels able to achieve anything. With Petula, the dog, for company she races to the metropolis. Oh, how marvellous it is for her to do whatever she likes. She is still a child, and children usually need somebody older to look after them, but not Molly. She is totally self-sufficient.
In New York she triumphs thanks to her skill as a hypnotist and she becomes a hit on Broadway when she stars in the musical “Stars on Mars”. Of course, she cheated by hypnotising the audience but she does make a lot of money. However, a fraudster who knows of the existence of the book discovers her secret. He kidnaps Petula and blackmails Molly into robbing a bank for him. Rocky appears just in the nick of time and together they free themselves of Nokman, but Nokman can´t free himself of them. The children, thanks to their hypnotic ability, decide to redeem him and turn him into a friendly zombie at their entire disposition and service.
They take the now well behaved Nockman to England with them. Nockman has been converted into a living experiment but it seems that all is going well and that even Nockman himself is happy. Molly now refuses to use her hypnotism for personal gain, but despite this she lives as happily as any child can dream of; free of grown-ups and her own tutor. The evil mistress of the orphanage has been thrown out and so Molly can use her wealth to take charge. In order to keep the outside world happy, she hires a good woman called Trinkelbury who could make a good wife for Nockman, successfully conclude his reformation. We could say that Molly has got it all, but I think that she may well start to get bored without the powerful weapon of hypnotism. What do you think?
