Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone
The book "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" by
the british writer J. K. Rowling (alias Joanne Rowling) is the first book of the famous "saga" of Harry Potter, a teenaged wizard with a tragic but also heroic past and much of the same for a future. By now, virtually everyone in the planet has heard of Harry Potter, so reading the first book doesn't really surprise that much. In this book, main characters are introduced to the reader and the story behind this eleven-year-old boy is told. He discovers that he's a wizard and is to attend the Hogwarts School of Wizardry and Witchcraft, he makes friends for life and has his first (actually is the second, but in the book series it's the first) encounter with his recurrent enemy and almost alter-ego Lord Voldemort, called by everyone You-Know-Who or The-One-That-Must-Not-Be-Named. Still, its a very well written book, I think. Enjoy!
