Twilight - The Modern Beauty and the Beast?
The Twilight saga has been gripping
millions of teenagers around the globe, the engaging first person story of the teenage angst of true love is considered to be a work of literary genius.
The story is being told by Isabella "Bella" Swan, an average girl with long brown hair who has a tendency to be a klutz, this is quite simplistic in it's idea - a heroine main character that every girl and even some boys can relate to. The isolated feeling of being an outsider.
Stephanie also creates one of the most epic romance interests in all literary history, in the form of Edward Cullen, a sexy, charasmatic, brooding vampire - A little too borrowed from Buffy i thought, but as i continued to read on i discovered that Stephanie created an original character, with deep motivations and clever character development.
As the story continues Bella discovers Edwards "Dangerous" - as he describes it...secret. This opens up a whole new world for Bella, one which she can never leave because of her burning love for Edward. This also thrusts her into the arms of a whole tirade of unsual characters, most from the Cullen family.
This book (and the rest of the series) is a modern re-telling of the classic "Beauty and the Beast" tale, a typical girl falls in love with a not-so-typical guy, who has dark secrets and an even darker past. The twist in this tale is it melds with the classic damsel in distress stories.
Bella falls prey to another host of vampires...James and Victoria - Deadly in there own right...Catasrophic together.
This book is sharp, sexy, funny, emotive and engaging, re-inforcing that romance can come in all forms at all ages.
