Salvador Dali was born in Spain in 1904. he was one of the most famous artist of the XX century. His most recognizable works
were called surrealist, the most of them are plenty of mystery and are object of our knowledge, however strange, thus modified by the artist’s view. Dali painted real images, difficult to be understood though. The majority of those images appeared in his dreams. Salvador Dali had over-protected parents, because before Dali was born, they lost another child; so when Dali came to world, his parents decided he would be called as the first baby: “Salvador” (The Savior). They treat the new “savior” as he was the first son. While Salvador was growing up, he became a confused child, that is why he had a different behavior from the other children. He used to have strange dreams, was afraid of many things, thus requested more attention than usual. Salvador Dali always painted memories of his childhood, including what he was frightened of. Even when he became an adult, Dali continued to call attention: either when he once show up at a party in a limousine plenty of cauliflowers or when he used to talk about his art using diving clothes. He used to affirm he received messages from other planets through his moustache. One question always remained: “What’s going to be Dali’s new invention?”. His fantastic imagination made him started to paint by 8 years-old. When he was teenager, he went to Art School of Madri in Spain, but soon he got tired of the antique way they were teaching art there and got interested on the new type of art that was being taught in Paris, France. His main interest was Picasso’s paint, a Spanish man who was living in Paris by that time. Dali loved the modern and diversified styles of Picasso. In one of his trip to Paris, he met Picasso. In Paris, he also met the surrealists, people who reinforced the importance of helping others to discover their hidden thoughts, or, as many say, “the inner self”. The surrealists liked Dali, so he became part of the group. Dali kept painting scenes of his dreams. The surrealists thought Dali had an exotic personality, and sometime they traveled to Spain to see him painting. Gala, one of the surrealist poet’s wife also went there to know Dali’s work; she was enchanted by his work and his strange personality. Gala had also a creative imagination; Dali and her combined in diverse matters. They fell in love; Dali thought Gala the most beautiful woman in the world and used her as a model in many of his paintings. Further on, Gala got divorced to marry Dali. Dali’s paintings were becoming famous in Europe and in the USA, because he wasn’t afraid of showing his dreams, thoughts or strange matters in his work, and this fact started to bother the surrealists. Dali left the group, then, and continued to paint exactly how he wanted. He lived until 86 years-old, and did not become famous only by his paintings but also by the movies he made as well as his writings. He worked with famous movie directors in Hollywood, including Walt Disney. Dali also created and designed clothes and bottles of wonderful perfumes and magazine advertisements.
