Joey, Dawson, Jen and Pacey are sitting in Dawson’s room watching a film when they
decide that they do not want to spend
summer this way. Dawson tells them he is going to do volunteers work and asks them to do it together. They
decide to work for an oceanic institute. Dawson becomes the helper of student Nick, Jen and Pacey can take care of the dolphin Abigail and Joey becomes a guide in the
lighthouse.
From the first time Joey is on location he hears a girl’s voice saying:
‘Play with me Josephine…’. Joey tells his friends, but they hear nothing and think she is imagining things. Pacey does not really want to do volunteer work during summer until he meets his boss, Kate, for which he falls immediately.
Nick thinks he knows where the Queen Mary has sunk and Joey and Dawson are going to dive with him. Joey and Dawson go into the water and Dawson is going to film. They find nothing, but Dawson and Joey see the ghost of Mary when they look back at the tape. Dawson now believes Joey and they decide to hold a séance. It appears that Mary will only rest once she has found her parents. Dawson starts to get interested in the puzzle and he starts thinking about where the shipwreck could be. He asks Nick to go with him when he thinks he knows where to look.
Bad weather is predicted for the day they are going to dive. Nick asks permission from Kate but does not get it. Nick lies to Dawson and Joey about this and they go out to sea. Once at sea they go diving at the suspected location and find the wreck. When they are back on board Dawson wants to get back because it has started to rain. But Nick does not want to leave, now that they have found the shipwreck. In the meantime Kate has found out that they have left without her permission. She asks Pacey and Jen to light the lighthouse. They can not get it to light, but still Joey sees a light. It is a signal for danger and they decide to go back. They are back safe and sound, but it could have been different if Joey had not seen Mary’s last signal, now that she has found peace.
