To study the liver Protecting actions of alcohol extract of Phyllanthus urinaria L.against experimental lesion. Observation on the influence of the extract on the hepatitis in mouse and rat models, and the activities of serurn alanine amino transferase(ALT)and liver enzymes for drug metabolism in vitro. The extract protected the liver from lesion induced by CCL 4,TAA and D GN,showing lower activity of ALT in the treated mice and rats than that in the control ones. But it did not influence the activity of ALT in normal mice in vitro and in vivo. Significant decrement of the sleeping duration induced by pentobarbital in mice was also found in this study.
The mechanism of the liver protecting actions of alcohol extract of Phyllanthus urinaria L. against liver lesion have many aspects. Alcohol extract of Phyllanthus urinaria L. have the capability of inducing the activity of liver drug enzyme, which may be the important reason of the liver protecting actions of Phyllanthus urinaria L..
