In the past decade tourism has been boom- ing in
traditional villages and detailed study has been made on this phenomenon
in terms of architecture, geography and tourism, etc. However, there is rela- tively still a lack of
tourism development and a lack of study on the change of form of
traditional vil- lages and therefore it is necessary to bridge up this gap in the study of tourism development of tradi- tional villages. Based on the change of forms of traditional villages in the course of tourism development, villages that are directly subject to tourism development can be divided into four types: those of gradual change, those of steady change, those of abrupt change and those of restoration. Based on the four types of villages, the paper dis- cusses the characteristics of changes of each type of them from such inscape as their regions, boundaries, nodes, symbols, residential houses and overall features, establishes the model of influence factors that cause the change of the villages, points out eight factors of influence that causes the change of villages such as county-level policies and man- agement measures, developers and planners, vil- lagers' income and the population of the village, tra- ditional building materials and construction technologies, etc.
