Brain Storming

Academic Paper Abstract by: SThap

Original Author: Saroj Rawat

Brain storming
Brain storming is one of the management develop techniques. This technique

was developed by Alex Osborn. It is an effective technique through which group creativity can be encouraged. This technique is used when the company wants to generate many ideas related to a need or an object. Usually, the group consists of six to ten people. It is not desirable to have too many experts in the group as they have tendency to look the problem in a rigid way.  The problem should be specific. The session preferably starts in the morning and should last for one hour. The chairman starts the session by saying that he wants as many as ideas possible, the ideas should be wilder and better and no evaluation would be allowed. Then the ideas start flowing. Within one hour over a hundred new ideas are recorded into tape-recorder.

Alex Osborn laid down some guideline for maximizing the effectives of the brain storming session. According to him any kind of ideas can be given about the problem. It encourages more and more ideas. Criticism and any kind of negative comment of ideas must be ruled out, instead of this, participants can improve the ideas of other members by combining their ideas with them. The brainstorming generates effective responses than producing good quality alternatives.

While the abstract has been written nicely, bringing out the important points, I would like to add that, one can also do an individual brainstorming, bringing out similar ideas, which however may be on a smaller scale.
