Pranab to launch NSDC on Tuesday A new corporation is on the way to be established by the government
of India with the Industrial Associations in the name of national Skill Development Corporation. The finance minister
Pranab Mukherjee will inaugurate the corporation today (20/10/09).
The main purpose of setting this corporation is to produce skilled workers to be utilized in various industries. The
Industries associations would retain the major share of the new entity, and the government would hold the rest. The ratio of ratio of the share holding between the Associations and the Government would be 51:49 respectively.
The Industries Associations will control NSDC with necessary support from the government in its implementation. Different bodies of the Industries Associations will point out sectors that are starved of skilled workers, and accordingly planned training would be initiated for those sectors. In due course, a data bank would be created of skilled workers to fulfill instant requirements of industries, trade, and service sectors. The initial identification of 21 fast growth sectors has been made, for which the training programs would be chalked out.
The new corporation is a part of the government’s 11th Five Year Plan.
The total mission would have Prime Minister’s National Council on Skill Development for apex levels policy directions, a National Skill Development Coordination Board, and the National Skill Development Corporation.
The initial expenses for setting up the corporation, the finance ministry of the government and industries bodies has contributed reasonably to make it a success.
