motivation is very tricky concept especially when it comes to making people do what you want them to do.
.can you really motivate some one to do something? you can at the most hold the carrot.
the answer is mostly no , because motivation is all self driven. but the urge to do , the drive, the force , comes from within.
there may be some "cue" but the force to react to the cue emnates from within.
Depending on the crave or urge to satisfy the need we are motivated to do.
In the organisation context , employee motivation is governed by motivators or hygene factors.(hertzberg).The absence of motivators can lead to demotivation but not the presence of that can ensure motivation. hygene factors do contribute to motivation. this has been well validated
connected with motivation is the reward. or even the outcome.Depending on the outcome and its impact , the motivation to repeat the behaviour happens
money motivates, but it is not everything for people in organisations.
the best paying company also loses people .In the exit interviews i have often heard people saying that they want to leave because the job it self is not challenging,or the boss is bad. There were instances when the bad performer was totally transformed when the role was reassigned or boss was changed
the conclusion is therefore that motivation is not driven by external forces most of the times but comes from with in .that is selfmotivation
