Women working in offices is not a new concept in India. However women climbing the corporate ladder, aspiring to reach the top, is the trend that has started recently, big thanks to the equal opportunity employment rule followed by MNCs. So this is all new experience for most of Indian women who struggle to balance a career without losing the social status as a dedicated wife, mother, daughter-in-law and all traditional roles. Add to this is the different, sometimes conflicting environments inside and outside the home. In essence it is a whole new experience for the society as well. With little or no management lessons these women try to manage both ends with the wisdom, patience and culture handed over to them through generations. Management teachings of the west are yet to be localized to Indian women. It is not just enough the experience every one of them get shared during commuting and gathering. But who has the time? Seema Goswami has taken time to do that and the books is well written stating the facts every office going women in India faces in day to day life. Compact easy to carry book that fits into your hand bag. So carry it along and read. I hope it is only the beginning. Let us expect more such books soon.
BTW, When I was asking for this book at Landmark, chennai, they brought 3 books from 3 different authors with the same title.
